Greetings, Sunnyside Members!
In 3 ½ months, we will be opening the doors of Sunnyside, welcoming the community into our fellowship hall for food and programming that will teach why Adventism can make a difference in the life of today’s families. The event will be 12 nights, spread out over six consecutive weekends. Saturday and Sunday nights will be booked for eating with our community then sharing the gospel. It excites me because after supper, we will have a full children’s program (think about a program like our VBS) teaching the same topic that the adults will hear. The night will end with discussion starters that will enable parents to talk about what they have learned with their children.
The date for this event: Sept. 22-Oct. 28.
In order to make this event a success, it must be a project of the entire Sunnyside Church. While the wheels of this project have begun to churn, we are in need of many volunteers who will give of time and energy to make this event a success.
How might you be able to get involved? Here are some options:
Facility Setup & Tear down
Each Sabbath afternoon, our fellowship hall and youth room will be transformed into an evangelistic center for meals, presentations and activities. We will need a large team to help move tables, put up decorations, and do whatever else is needed to make sure the facility is ready for the meetings. (Time Commitment: 1-2 hours on Sabbath afternoons on meeting days <and/or> 1-2 hours on Sunday after the meeting so that the facility can be used normally throughout the week.)
Kitchen staffing, meal preparation, Cuisine scheduling
One of the best ways to develop new friendships is over a warm meal. Consider helping out the kitchen crew with preparing meals, organizing clean up, or scheduling various cuisines. (Time Commitment: 3-4 hours on the days you choose to help. More volunteers=less nights for each volunteer.)
Greeting and Hospitality
It is our desire that our guests feel at home from the moment they leave their cars til the moment they return to go home. This means we will need an army of friendly people who enjoy greeting guests and helping them find their way to the meetings. (Time commitment: Orientation meetings before the series, then 4:30-5:30 each night that one volunteers)
Effective presentations are aided by effective A/V support. We have an excellent A/V team. With this many meetings, they could use help. Are you interested? You’d be a valuable part of the team.
- Preparing audio system for Adult and Children’s meetings
- Setting up temporary video systems in Fellowship Hall
- (Maybe?) Developing PowerPoint slides to accompany Pastor Jonathan’s messages in the weeks before meetings.
It takes many volunteers to put on a good children’s ministries program. We’ll need people who can be:
- Group leaders
Time Commitment? Who knows? If you’re asking about time, this isn’t for you. Children’s ministries require the passion to make a difference in kids’ lives.
Each night’s sermon will be followed by discussion time. Discussion leaders will lead the conversations in response to the sermon. They will also be sitting at the same tables each night for dinner, intentionally connecting with our guest families. (Time Commitment: Signficant. We plan to have some training meetings before the meetings begin. Discussion leaders will be asked to attend all 12 meetings, if possible.)
The best events in the world aren’t successful unless people know about it. The marketing task has begun, but there is more to do. Do you have a passion for marketing and promoting? Jump on this team now to help get the word out before September. (Time Commitment: Regular meetings to advance marketing materials and promotional strategy between now and September)
No outreach event can be successful unless it is bathed in prayer. We invite prayer warriors to lift this effort in prayer between now and Christmas time when we are continuing relationship with our new friends. All pray-ers are welcome. In addition, we are working to put together prayer meetings that will hold this project up in prayer consistently between now and its completion.
Maybe you don’t care what you do, but just want to be involved in the project. If that’s you, sign up here. The leadership team will put you on whatever ministry team needs the help.
Please be praying about how you could be used in this outreach effort. At church this Sabbath, June 9, we will be focusing on kicking off this project and asking for God’s blessing as we work to reach out to this community. Please come prepared, if possible, to sign up in your preferred ministry team. This effort won’t work unless we all work together, serving as we are able to further God’s kingdom.
I can’t wait to see what God has in store for Sunnyside as we pursue His plan.
I’ll see you on Sabbath!
