April 6 Communiqué & Announcements

(Need to jump straight to the News? Click Here!)

Greetings Church Family,

This week I’ve take opportunity to reflect on those hours just following the moment that Jesus died.  For those who had spent their lives and livelihoods in pursuit of this vagabond rabbi, the world was more confusing and uncertain than ever.  They had expected Him to save them from Rome, to take over and usher in a new world of freedom and success for their nation.  And then He died.  What were they to do?  Carry His message forward? Write Him off as a fraud and charlatan?  Those moments must have been some of the darkest moments in humanity’s collective experience.  To experience the Light of the World…and then have it extinguisher before their eyes.  The discouragement, disillusionment, even despair must have been palpable as the followers of Jesus met together.

While our experience can’t be compared to theirs, we experience our own share of heartache and disappointment.  We all have our moments when life just isn’t turning out as we think it should.

Jesus promised life abundantly, yet too often we get stuck in the malaise of the day-to-day journey.

Is there an answer? Is there a key that unlocks the door of darkness, revealing the Light in our own lives?

I believe there is.  The key?  Heartburn (but probably not the kind you’re used to).  Tomorrow morning, we will look at Scripture together to find courage for the road ahead and a challenge to live life even more abundantly   I hope to see you for worship services at 8:45 or 11:15.

Pastor Jonathan

This Weekend

Sabbath worship services are at 8:45 and 11:15 am. This week Pastor Jonathan Russell will bring us the sermon entitled “Heartburn.”

Immediately following the second service today we will enjoy a fellowship potluck. Plan to stay, enjoy good food, and great fellowship.

Our photographer will be taking photos in the Youth Room from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you haven’t had your picture taken for our photo directory, today would be a good day to do so, or if you need a re-take, Ben will be happy to do that as well. Stop in and find the best time available for him to take your picture.

Safety Training will take place today following the potluck at 1:30 pm in the Youth Room. This is the third and final training that all leaders and volunteers are encouraged to attend. It will cover different material than was presented in sessions one and two. Our guest speaker will be Troy Price, a former Task Force Agent with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, currently directing the Major Crimes Unit with a police department in Washington State. We will learn: Strategies for handling disruptive people; preparing and dealing with medical emergencies; safety and security for daily operations; and emergency preparedness.

This afternoon at 5:00 Encounters With God features Don Hall, DrPH, CHES, Founder and Board Chair of Wellsource.
