Hello summer and hello Sunnysiders!
The summer winds are blowing and the trees (now that they have leaves) are gently swaying! Alright, so much for my poetry! We do have one wonderful weekend coming up. I am also hearing that you have choices as to where you will be this weekend. It is time for the annual Norwest ASI convention at the coast and the Oregon Adventist Men’s Choir will be there, and here in Portland, PAA is hosting their spring alumni gathering.
In case you are choosing to stay at Sunnyside, we do have a special worship service planned around Jesus’ “Parable of the Lamp” as recorded in Luke 8:16-18. Brooke Benfield will be back as our guest organist as will be our Suunyside Choir. Oh yes, and its potluck!!!!
In case you have not heard, Dorothy and I are going to be taking a many years delayed six-week sabbatical starting this Sabbath afternoon. In our absence, you will be celebrating a special program that we have labeled “The Seven Sabbaths of the Cross,” which will each progressively focus on one the seven sayings of Jesus from the cross. The speakers will be Pastors Jonathan and Shirley as well as Dave Allen and Al Reimche. Musical selections for each Sabbath will correspond to the topic. I will be back to culminate the series with week seven when Jesus uttered His last words, “Father, Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit (Luke 23:46).”
Pastor Jonathan has been appointed as temporary Executive Pastor while I am out. We’ll see you our return to Sunnyside.
News & Notes
Sabbath worship services are at 8:45 and 11:15 am. This week Pastor Scott LeMert will bring us the sermon entitled The Parable of the Lamp.
Immediately following the second service today we will enjoy a fellowship potluck. Plan to stay, enjoy good food, and great fellowship.
Our photographer will be taking photos in the Youth Room from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you haven’t had your picture taken for our photo directory, today would be a good day to do so, or if you need a re-take, Ben will be happy to do that as well. Stop in and find the best time available for him to take your picture.
