Greetings Sunnyside Saints,
What a privilege it is to be a part of the family of Sunnyside! Hardly a day passes without another reason to be thankful for the community of which we are a part. Many days, I am excited to find small groups, studying God’s Word together. Other days, I hear of individuals who go out of their way to be a blessing to someone else in the church family. At other times, people spend countless hours here at the church, making it a beautiful place to be. Whether it is committees that are working well together, or individuals who sacrifice for the good of others, Sunnyside is a blessed place to be.
It was a few years ago now that I had a conversation with a young lady. I had only spoken with her a time or two in my life, so I was quite surprised when she sought me out just out of the blue. She shared that years before, she had been blessed by a few minutes that we had spent together talking about life and calling and life’s direction. I had no idea that I had made an impact. And yet that individual took the time to let me know. I wish I had words to express how meaningful that small gesture was to me.
At Sunnyside there are countless volunteer hours spent. There are countless small conversations that take place. There are countless meals and experiences shared. And yet sometimes we don’t know what kind of impact we are making in the world. If there is someone in our community that has touched your life with a word, with an action, with the way they fulfill their responsibility, why not let them know? Drop someone a thank you note. Shake their hand and let them know how they have blessed your life. Just a small token of appreciation can be a large encouragement. Take an opportunity this weekend to let someone know how much they matter.
I hope you’ve got your track shoes on for this weekend of events. Sabbath morning, our own Pastor Dave Allen is back to share the message entitled, “Saints@Sunnyside.” In the evening, Portland Adventist String Orchestra, a youth orchestra including some of our own young people, will be performing their spring concert in the sanctuary. This will be a unique concert experience that you don’t want to miss.
Sunday is Pathfinder fair in Albany at the Linn County Fairgrounds. Admission is free and there’s lots of fun (and food) for the whole family! Don’t have the energy to make the trip? Check out the live stream at the Oregon Conference website. It is a fantastic event.
