Greetings Church Family,
Did you know that it is only two weeks until the launch of SunnyCity? Our church campus will transform, and we will be prepared to welcome hundreds of guests. That’s right, SunnyCity is coming to Sunnyside’s property this year. Just as a fine Swiss watch needs every part present and working properly, we need dozens of people participating to make this event a success. Don’t know what you can do? Talk with Natalia. Read the Communique. Find some way to get involved as we begin a season of outreach to our community. We are blessed to have so many dedicated volunteers within our church community. If you haven’t yet found your service niche, consider helping out with this exciting community event. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks for the support as we enter the last weeks of preparation.
Tomorrow, we continue our series on the seven sayings at the cross. As Jesus’ sufferings were drawing to a close, two simple words crossed His lips. “I thirst.” Were these just the utterance of a desperate, dying man? Or were they words of more significance, meaningful even today? I hope that you will be in church as we explore these words of Jesus.
By the way, some of you have commented about how our live video stream has been shaky and the quality has been extremely poor lately. This week, we think we’ve been able to fix the problems. For the first time at Sunnyside, we’ll be live streaming in High Definition. Please don’t’ stay home just to check out the video stream. But if you’re not in the Portland area, be sure to join us via your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Or maybe invite a friend to join our worship from a distance.
Whatever the case, I will hope to see you Sabbath. May your Sabbath be full of peace!

Congratulations to the Sunnyside Adventurers on receiving “Club of the Year” award at the Oregon Conference Family Fun Day! When asked impromptu, the Sunnyside children volunteered to lead the Pledge and Law during the opening ceremony. And they did a marvelous job!
A crew of tired actors and narrators repeated the same skit nine different times. And it got better and better with each turn! With soft voices and no microphones, you could almost hear a pin drop for almost 20 minutes at a time The children, parents, and leaders, were glued to the scene. Leaders were amazed that their children could sit and listen so intensely. Good job, everyone!
The Living Last Supper is a reenactment of the Lord’s Last Supper based on Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. This is an event you will not want to miss. Invite your friends and family. It will be presented for both worship services on June 22. You can help the team by lending any of the following items: Stoneware or wooden pitchers, wooden cups, large wooden bowls, and 24” stools. Contact Tracey at 503-481-4698.
Sunnyside will celebrate its 32nd Annual Strawberry Vespers, Sabbath evening, June 22, 6:00 pm. It will be a program with great music from some of Portland’s finest musicians. Plenty of good fellowship, and lots of strawberry shortcake to follow. Come, bring your friends, and join us for a wonderful evening.
SunnyCity 2013 ~ Kids’Career Quest: “Imagine Your Future”: What are you passionate about? What do you do for living? What is your hobby? Do you work for a wonderful company or do you own a business? What do you still want to be “when you grow up”? Be an inspiration for young children and join us here, at Sunnyside, on the day before VBS, Sunday, June 23, 12:00 to 4:00 pm for SunnyCity. To sign-up and volunteer, see Natalia Gramada today, or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please join the team and help us create a beautiful event for everyone! We need people that are happy to serve the community: greet visitors, coordinate parking, help at registration, lead stations or assist in booths that are short staffed, help with set-up and take down, prepare supplies ahead of time, spread the word, invite community organizations or business people to host a booth, supervise inflatables, paint or play with children, sing for them or play musical instruments, teach them how to fix a bike, change a tire or check the engine’s oil, and many other possibilities! There’s something to do for everyone! Let us know how you’d like to help, and plan to join us for potluck on June 15. Contact Natalia ASAP: 503-750-9151 or email@example.com. Volunteer forms are available at the information table.
Vacation Bible School will be June 24-28, 6:30-8:30 pm, with graduation on June 29 at 10:00 am. We have an exciting program this year about Athens – Paul’s Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth. Go to our website to see more details. If you haven’t yet signed up to volunteer, consider doing so. Bring your children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. They will remember their experience at VBS for a lifetime!
Big Lake Camps are coming! This is a favorite place for many of our kids during the summer months. If you can help sponsor a camper this year, please contact Richard Gingrich or Pastor Shirley.
