June 15 Communiqué

Greetings Sunnyside Church Family,

I hope that you’ve been appreciating our seven-part series on the cross of Jesus. I know that I have been blessed as I have looked at the cornerstone of our faith with fresh eyes.  Tomorrow, we are blessed to continue the series with Oregon Conference President Al Reimche as our guest speaker.  He will be preaching on Jesus’ proclamation, “It is Finished.”

This morning, I took some time to go with my wife and William to see a doctor.  Part of the visit was to draw a vial of blood.  William is a pretty chill little guy.  There’s not too much that phases him. But even with his trusty lollipop, this relaxed demeanor didn’t quite match up to the pair of nurses trying to get blood out of his little arm.  If you know me, you know that I don’t handle blood or needles (or both) very well at all.  So while little William screamed for all he was worth, I simply had to look away.  I had to try to ignore the cries. After all, I know he needed that blood draw.

And in that moment, I knew what the Father must have felt looking down at Calvary so many years ago.   His desire to hold His Son. To shield Him from the pain.  To respond to His cries.  And yet, He couldn’t.  He wouldn’t.  Because of us.

So when Jesus said, “It is finished,” it must have been a relief to the Father.  Relief because Jesus’ pain was over.  Satisfaction because the mission was accomplished.  And joy because He knew that dawn would break anew Sunday morning.

As we near the end of our series, I hope that you have been blessed.  But more so, I hope that you have been overwhelmed by the love of the Father for  you.

Tomorrow will be another great worship experience!  I hope to see you there.

 Pastor  Jonathan

There’s something to do for everyone! Let us know how you’d like to help, and plan to join us for potluck tomorrow right after the second service.
