August 17 Communiqué

Sunnyside Saints,

The Romania Mission Gang is trickling back into Portland.  Some will be staying on for a couple of weeks and visiting family; others are seeing a little more of Europe before returning.

We had a great time: people always make it worthwhile!  A few of the construction things we hoped to do were not ready, so our group adapted and did other needed projects.  Siret SunnyCity and its corresponding VBS went very well.  Hearing 88 kids sing the Lord’s Prayer in their Romanian language was a memorable heart tugger.  In a couple of weeks the group will share with Sunnyside pictures and highlights of the trip.

Our thanks to Pastor Jonathan who stayed by the church while Pastor Shirley and I were in Romania.  I also trust that you have had time to enjoy the wonderful weather we have had this summer.  God is Good!

Tomorrow our service will center on the theme, “Surely Goodness and Mercy.”  These favorite words of the Bible come from a text dealing with the Old Testament sanctuary.  And, with it comes all kinds of questions over law and grace, and hopefully joy in the Lord.  See you with your Bibles!

Do check the bulletin for extra committee and board meetings this week.

PAA has yet more changes to announce. It is with mixed feelings we say goodbye to Jon Lovenguth, a 15-year PAA teacher. Mr. Lovenguth recently found full time employment after serving PAA as a part time teacher for several years. We are happy for him, of course. But he will be missed.

We are also thrilled to announce the addition of Pastor Steve Lemke to our Bible teaching staff. Some of our pastors are already familiar with Steve and know that he will be a great addition to our team!
