Happy Preparation Day Sunnyside!
Tomorrow is the last day of August; Sunday starts the great month of September. School is starting back up, apple season is just around the corner, and the fall colors and cool fresh air will descend upon us. Oh yes, it’s my birthday month!
Hey, tomorrow is our 2013 Reunion Sabbath. Bobby McGhee is in town and we will have dozens of special guests and visitors at church. Our speaker is the Ohio Conference President, Dr. Raj Attiken with a presentation entitled, “You Can Look Away, But It Won’t Go Away.” At 6:00 p.m. we will feature the 11th Annual Bobby McGhee and Friends musical reunion. For many of Portland’s former members, these programs and the Sunday softball tournament is their once a year contact back home. Let’s welcome them and give them reason to come again.
Also, September is when we kickoff our “Life On The Sunnyside” 2013-14 healthy lifestyle program for ourselves and the community around. Sabbath, September 14, our speaker will be Dr. Richard Hart, President of Loma Linda University Medical School; he will also speak at 2:30 in the afternoon and give us the updates on the LLU Adventist Health Study. September 22, will host a community 5K Fun Run/Walk for Sunnyside and Community. This is for all age groups, even those with walkers might want to try half a 5K run. We will do this all around the church, PAA, AMC, and CherryWood. September 29, we will host a “Life On The Sunnyside” health fair and screening. Again, this will be for ourselves and advertised to the greater community around us. To do these events we need VOLUNTEERS. See you tomorrow for signups. Much more information to come.
