Dear Sunnyside:

This Sabbath will be a high day for Sunnyside as we will host Portland Adventist Academy for both worship services.  This will be a well-designed worship program featuring a number of Sunnyside PAA students.  They are bringing several different musical groups including two choirs with each doing a variety of music for this special service.  The sermon time will also be taken by PAA students.  It is a wonderful thing to see Adventist youth being willing to put themselves into service of the Lord on Sabbath.  Come and support our kids.

Next Sabbath, we will host Dr. David Trim, General Conference Archivist and well-known historian.  Dr. Trim has been at Sunnyside before and was well appreciated.  Here are the times and topics for this upcoming weekend:

Friday night, 7:00 pm: “The Makings of a Mission Church: The Great Second Advent Movement 1843-1922—and What It Means for Us today,”

Sabbath morning, two services, 8:45 and 11:15: “Stones of Meaning,”

Sabbath afternoon, 2:30 (after potluck): “Visionaries of Worldwide Mission.”

It has often been said that we have, “nothing to fear for the future unless we forget the way God has led us in the past.”  Dr. Trim has a way of making history not only interesting, but relevant as well.  As members of this great church, it is vital that we have a clear knowledge of our history and the forces that have shaped us as a church.

Reports Dr. Trim of this weekend: “Does history matter for an apocalyptic movement, focused on the end of time? This weekend will be focused on our history and show us why it matters – the stories that can inspire; the mistakes that we need to learn from; and the heritage that shaped us and continues to shape our identity in the twenty-first century.”

Do plan to join us for both of these interesting weekends at Sunnyside.
