Greetings Church Family!
Today, I’m thankful for each one of you and for our church family. It’s a gift from God to have a community in which one can experience a shared faith, friendship, and support. It’s true that for many people, church is simply a place that they go once a week to get their “Jesus fix” and get on with their life. I’m so thankful that Sunnyside is so much more than that. I’m thankful that Sunnyside is a community where we do connect with each other, serve together, inspire each other to follow Jesus more closely.
Of course, not everything’s perfect. Sometimes there are disagreements. Sometimes, we don’t get along with everyone. There are probably things here and there that irritate and annoy. But if we’re honest, that’s part of family too, isn’t it? That is a part of the reality when a thousand humans choose to live together as a community of faith.
The other part of that reality is at the end of the day, we know that we have each other’s back. When someone is hurting, we all hurt. When someone can’t seem to find God, there’s another to help point the way. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the community rallies. When a new baby is born, we rally to celebrate new life together. When we lose someone dear, we rally to celebrate life and to hug and hold up those who were closest to them.
This is part of what it means to be the family of God.
I get to spend most of the day today with my kids. I told them that before we go do something fun, I needed to write a letter to the church. “What should I write,” I asked them.
Robby looked up at me out of the corner of his eye as he answered, “Tell them that you love them.”
As is so often the case, a 4-year-old has deep wisdom. But I don’t write because he said so, I write because it’s true.
I simply love this church and I love each of you in it. Every day, I wake up thanking God for the opportunity to serve, to connect, and to love you.
Thanks for what you do to make this an amazing community.
I hope to see many of you tomorrow as we share faith and worship our God together.
