Greetings from your Church!
This Sabbath is the last Sabbath and day of February; we are only a week away from the spring time change! This has been a great winter, not only weather wise but also for the wonderful blessings we have experienced. And, we say this with a little bitter sweetness in our hearts for we have on our calendar three memorial services planned:
Russell Pesterfield: This Sunday, at 3:00.
Milton Wiloughby: Sabbath, March 14, at 3:00.
Dr. Bob Manley: Sabbath, March 28, at 4:00.
This is all happening while I am being told to expect a large crop of newborns at Sunnyside this spring, summer, and fall. We will experience both laughter and tears! In all of this, we’ll celebrate the promises of God.
This Sabbath’s sermon title has some wondering if they are looking at a misprint? “Goodness Without Godness.” Makes you look twice, right? I know, Godness is not really a word. However, in this worship program we are going to be looking at an age-old question, “Will not good people be deserving of a life in the hereafter just as much as those who claim to be “Christians?” Hence, you see the choice of words. I think you will find this time together very helpful and encouraging.
Don’t forget Sabbath’s young families potluck, and later at 4:00, Polly Moody and Friends special concert, and then on Sunday, March 8, the Moving Forward Benefit Dinner. For this dinner we have a lot of tables sponsored but we need to have people to attend and make use of the spaces already provided.
See you Sabbath,
Pastor Scott and Staff
News & Notes
Our worship services are at 8:45 and 11:15 am. Pastor Scott LeMert will present our Bible message entitled Goodness Without Godness.
Young Families potluck is immediately following the second service. It’ll be a time to eat, chat, and make friends. Child care will be provided for children birth to primary age.
Sunday, March 1, 8:30 am, Elder’s Breakfast will meet in the fellowship Hall.
A memorial service for Russ Pesterfield will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 1.
March 7, 5:00 pm: Archaeological Artifacts and Bible Stories will be presented by Drs. Larry Geraty, Doug Clark, and Kent Bramlett. Drawing on more than a combined century of archaeological teaching, fieldwork, research, and publication, Drs. Geraty, Clark, and Bramlett will put on a show-and-tell program with several genuine artifacts from the Holy Lands in hand. Artifacts from the nearly 20,000 now in the possession of the Center for Near Eastern Archaeology at La Sierra University come from all areas of ancient life. They will be used to illustrate daily life and survival, religion, and writing in Bible times.
Sunday, March 8, 4:45 pm, The Moving Forward Benefit Dinner is rapidly approaching! We have limited sponsored seats available at no charge for those who would like to attend. Just let Becky know you would like to attend. To make the evening an exciting success, please help with the following: donations for the silent and/or live auction, helpers for the auction, table servers, helpers for child care, and at least 10 men to bake a cake for the Dessert Dash! Contact Becky Haggerty at email@example.com or 503-804-1863.
If you can speak Swahili, or know of someone that can, we are looking for assistance with translation services. Please contact the church office at 503-252-8080.
The Family Resource Network is looking for storage space for household goods. If you can help, please contact Marie Pierre at 503-998-3754.
