As the Irish love to sing, “Oh, the summer winds are a blowing, and the trees are gently swaying.” So can be Portland’s mantra this weekend. Sabbath and summer are in the air and what a wonderful time to celebrate creation’s God.
And yes, this is me, Pastor Scott writing from my office. It is amazing what one more week can do to bring the body around. Dorothy and I plan to join you tomorrow for church and potluck. I’m not planning on being up front, but we will be here to encourage the members. We’ve missed you!
As you have prayed for me, if you would please, turn your prayers on behalf of Pastor Jonathan this week. On Monday he is going in for a long delayed arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. That could knock him down for a week. I’ll be taking my turn at the church this coming week so don’t be afraid to call. I’m really doing quite well.
Tomorrow’s worship service has been coordinated by our women’s ministry team. Our women’s triple trio will provide our music and Pastor Jonathan will share a Bible message (“Unlikely Partnership”) exploring the unlikely partnership between Jesus and an ostracized Samaritan woman.
As you are aware, this is a potluck Sabbath, so please, come prepared to eat and share your bounty. Since it is expected to be around 90 degrees tomorrow, I am sure the kitchen staff would appreciate fewer hot dishes that they have to heat in the ovens.
There are many more announcements to follow. Please, give them your prayers and attention.
See you tomorrow!
Pastor Scott and Staff
