August 8 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here )

Sunnyside Community,

It feels like August in Portland is supposed to feel like!  And, it is wonderful!  I’m not ready for summer to be done, but normal sure feels good again.

Last Sabbath’s attendance at Sunnyside looked very August—lots of visitors and lots of members on vacations or outings.  And by the way, welcome to the many new people who have turned in membership requests recently to our Sunnyside church office.  We look forward to getting more acquainted and worshiping with you in the upcoming weeks, months, and years.  Thank you for choosing Sunnyside.

This coming Sabbath is going to be special to me in that since my surgery, this will be the first time that I have taken the pulpit for our worship time.  This will be the first of three sermons of which I have a deep heart-felt sense of urgency to share with you.  There are interesting parallels between our own Adventist Church and the return of the Jews after the Babylonian captivity.  For both groups, “Babylon is fallen, come out of her my people,” but only a remnant comes out, the Messiah is coming (did and will), and the ensuing next generations will go through many of the same issues and challenges.  The lessons are many and that will be the subject content of this series.

Each of the next three Sabbaths we will focus on one of the last three books of the Bible – Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.  Each is from that tumultuous period, each has a distinct message, and each comes with deep lessons for modern-day Adventists.  This Sabbath’s sermon is from Haggai and is titled, “From Stones to Glory.”

Please, do read the other announcements in the bulletin and newsletter; it might be summer, but Sunnyside never sleeps.
