October 3 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here )

Dear Sunnyside,

There is so much to say in these few words.  As I sit here and look at the date on the top of this page I realize that the month of October, my retirement month, is actually here.  Such mixed emotions!

To add to this day, I have been on the phone this last hour dealing with the crisis in Roseburg.  When I first received word of what happened in Roseburg; my first panic was that our grandson has been taking some classes at Umpqua Community College — you can understand how my knees went weak.

The family there is all okay but so many traumas in the community.  Our son, being an orthodontist, surely had many of these kids as patients.  I am also thinking that Dorothy and I might know some of the families involved for we lived there for seven years.  Please, hold that community up in your prayers.

Again, thank you in advance to so many who are doing so much to make this last Sabbath a memorable one for us.  I truly hope you are all there, not just for Dorothy and me, but also for Jonathan and Jaclyn.  Plan to join us this day for the sake of Sunnyside as well.  Events like this are more about Sunnyside than the pastors.

See you Sabbath.  Remember, Sabbath School starts at 9:30, and the single enlarged worship service starts at 10:45.

Rock Raking! Last week we made a call for people to come rake rocks in the back of the church in preparation for a new lawn. We had a great turn out and within just a few hours we had the job done. Thank you. You made short work of a laborious job!

This Weekend

This week Sabbath School will begin at 9:30 am. We will have only one  worship service that will begin at 10:45 am. Pastor Scott LeMert will present our Bible message titled “The Lord Be With You!”

Our monthly fellowship potluck is today immediately following the second service. You are invited to stay, enjoy great food, good friendships, and make new acquaintances.

Church Announcements

The 2015 PACS (Portland Adventist Community Services) Awards Dinner is October 11, 4:00 pm, at Embassy Suites Hotel, Portland Airport. It will feature a silent auction, gourmet meal, and an awards presentation. Call 503-252-8500 by Wednesday, October 7, for seat reservations or more information. By letting PACS be our partner in service, we give disadvantaged families in the Portland area a leg up in their quest to get out of poverty.

Sabbath, October 17, Pastor Eliseo Lozano from Changing People’s Lives Ministries (cplives.org) will share first-hand experience in taking the gospel to communist countries. He will be preaching for our services and sharing a special Encounters With God at 5:00 pm. Because of the sensitive nature of his experience, we will be unable to live-stream our worship service on that Sabbath. Plan now to attend this unique Sabbath experience.

Hans U. Hielscher, organist, will be in concert at Sunnyside Church, Wednesday evening, October 21, 7:00. Hans Hielscher is a German organist and composer and has played more than 2,500 concerts worldwide. This is a concert you will want to attend.

We are pleased to announce a joint mission project to Belize between Oregon and Moldova SDA Conferences. A group of missionaries from Romania will travel with a group from Sunnyside to Belize and work together in various projects: two evangelistic series, children’s ministries, and construction. Everyone can participate! We will leave Portland on Nov. 9 and return Nov. 24. Contact Vasile Gramada 503-705-3072.
