Greetings, Sunnyside Family!
On an evening centuries past, a young girl travelled to a foreign town, obeying a foreign decree, to have a baby in a foreign environment. To the people of Bethlehem, she was just another traveler. Just another poor soul sentenced to discomfort and inconvenience by a self-aggrandizing Roman emperor. The setting was remarkable, only for its inhospitality. But the moment itself left an indelible mark on history. That young girl would never dream that her sojourn and the events near the manger that night would be remembered with fondness twenty centuries later. She never would’ve guessed that entire cultures would freeze in place for a day to celebrate and remember the birth of her son. She couldn’t have imagined that her suffering and sacrifice would be memorialized by an international festival of commercialism and consumption.
Yet beyond her most brilliant imaginings, the birth of Jesus Christ still makes humanity take notice. The birth of Jesus still causes wonder and amazement. The birth of Jesus still changes lives. So today, as we live in a culture that acknowledges that ancient sacred event with bright paper and bows, decadent sweets, and the proverbial Christmas goose, may we acknowledge that moment with equal fervor as we offer our hearts, our loyalty and our lives to the baby of Bethlehem. May we take this moment to reconnect and recommit, realizing the ultimate Gift and His impact on us. Yesterday, today, and for eternity.
God’s blessing on each of you as experience the joy and wonder of this season.
News & Notes
Today we are enjoying Christmas Brunch that started at 8:30 am. We will be finished promptly at 9:45 am. Bible study classes will begin at 10:00. We are only having one service today beginning at 11:00 am.
Throughout its history, the Christian church has regarded communion as one of its highest acts of worship. From its earliest roots it has been marked by a tone of joy, unity and renewal. The joy we receive resides in knowing that through Christ’s sacrifice we not only experience reconciliation to the Father but we also receive a new life, an abundant life! Join us on Friday, January 1 at 6:00 pm, as we celebrate this special communion service with our Sunnyside family and embrace a new beginning and a new year together with Jesus! “Do this in remembrance of Me.” -Jesus
As the end of the year approaches, some may consider giving a Christmas gift to the Sunnyside church family. Please consider donating to our Church Budget and our ReNew Sunnyside project. Our church budget provides funding for most of our ministries to the community and our own members. ReNew Sunnyside will continue the renovation and refurbishment of our facility. Thank you for supporting the mission and ministry of our church community.
