February 27 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here)

Greetings Sunnyside Family,

Tomorrow is a day that we’ve been looking forward to for a long time.  Pastor Kara Dale will be joining our pastoral staff officially tomorrow during second service. I’m thankful for God’s clear leading in inviting her to join our ministry team. Pastor Kara is a passionate and engaging pastor who will add a lot to our team. Over the coming weeks, your pastors will be working to clearly define roles and responsibilities. As the Lord leads us through that process, we’ll keep you up to speed on what to expect.

Yesterday, I had the chance to catch up with Pastor Kara via email.  Here’s what she had to say:

Q: How has the adjustment to the States been going?

A: Transitioning countries is a rather intense process, but I feel beyond blessed in the way God has led; from the day I stepped up to the airline counter and was given a row of seats free beside me on the plane for the long haul over, to the news that my goods took only three weeks to reach American shores, rather than the ten weeks they said I should allow for, God has opened door after door. Not to mention the incredible kindness that I have experienced from my new American family – strangers and friends alike have shown both grace and hospitality.

Q: Where are you making your home?

A: I am renting a little studio apartment in the SW area of downtown Portland, overlooking the river and Mt Hood. For my first two weeks I enjoyed the city on foot, slowly widening my “home vicinity.” Now that I have a car, that vicinity is increasing quite rapidly!

Q: Any favorite spots in the city yet?

A: It is such a beautiful city that I have a hard time choosing a favorite! But if I have to pick a few out of the downtown area, I would say that the Pearl District is a fun place to hang out. I also really love the river loop and am trying to get an early morning walk most days.

Q: What’s one area of ministry you can’t wait to get started in?

A: Again, how does one narrow that down!!! Pastoral Care and Community Building would be two areas that I am very excited about.

Q: If there were one thing that you wanted people to know about you, it would be….

A: I’m not real keen on spiders or snakes, so should any be found in the church, call Pastors Jonathan or Colby!

As I see the Holy Spirit moving amidst the people of Sunnyside, as I see God’s hand in bringing the leadership team together, I’m reminded of the words penned by Ellen White and recorded in This Day With God (p. 44). “Encourage your heart in the Lord. I rejoice in the bright prospects of the future, and so may you. Let us be cheerful, and praise the Lord for His loving-kindness to the children of men.”

I too rejoice in “bright prospects of the future” as we seek to follow the will of Jesus until He comes.
