Dear Church Family,
In this my first communique, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for welcoming me into your lives so warmly. So many people have taken time to say hello, sharing encouragement and acceptance; I have felt beyond blessed! In fact, even as I was quietly sitting in the back, prior to being introduced, people both behind and beside me, took time to make me feel at home in Sunnyside. I want to affirm your warmth and acceptance. What a blessing to belong to such a gracious and warm family.
This past week has been an exciting one for me, as my belongings from Australia arrived! As I enthusiastically unpacked, and each article took its place in my apartment and office, I was struck anew with the power of the familiar, the comfort that one can find in it. Ironically, alongside my unpacking, I have been meditating on the life of Abraham, a man who was called by God, out of the familiar, away from all that was known to him. Hebrews 11 affirms that he left without even knowing where he was going, only that he was following God. This is the challenge of a faith-lived life; trusting God completely. I am looking forward to exploring this calling further with you tomorrow.
While we worship together, two of our mission teams will be living this journey of faith with God in very tangible ways in Ethiopia and Los Angeles. Please keep them in your prayers.
Looking forward to worshipping with you tomorrow,
