A Good Father

Most of us are born into families which fall into one of two categories. Some of us were fortunate enough to be born into homes where love, grace, and acceptance are the norm. While others are born into homes where abuse, scorn, and neglect are present. However, even the best of human families have their downfalls and even the “best” fathers are certainly anything but perfect. Although some of us take Father’s Day to appreciate the goodness of our dads, others may be thinking quite the opposite, those whom fall into that second category. Despite your upbringing and regardless of the benevolence of your biological dad, I have great news for you; our God is a good, good father!

The Bible often corresponds our relationship to God as to a child’s relationship to his or her father. For example, the Gospel tell us that “if you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him” (NIV, Matthew 7:11). The point here is from less to more. If sinful man is able to show any goodness to his children, then how much more so will God – who is our Father in heaven, who is perfect and complete in love, who is lacking nothing and who withholds no good thing from us – take care of us and provide for us thoroughly. Our Heavenly Father is the ultimate Dad! He gives us the best gifts and in his sovereignty provides those things which He knows we need, not necessarily want.

In sending His Son, Jesus Christ into the world, our Heavenly Father “proves His love for us in this: while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (NIV, Romans 5:8). He gave us the most precious gift He could ever offer, namely, the death of His one and only Son on a stake so that we might enter into the family of God, so that Jesus might be our brother and we might be called His children. If God, our Father, is good enough to give us Jesus, most assuredly then we can say with great confidence that He is a good, good Father.

Great News about Big Lake!!
We have been given permission by the Forest Service to rebuild cabins in the Girl’s Village! They have lifted the moratorium on new building (after many decades of master plan negotiations). To fundraise for the new cabins we are working to find counselors that lived in cabins, 20, 21, 25, 27, 30, or GV directors. We are hoping that they might be willing to share a positive, life-changing experience that they had while they were counseling in that particular cabin. If you fit this category or know of someone who does, please contact Les Zollbrecht, Director Big Lake Youth Camp 503-850-3578.
