June 25 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here)

Dear Family,

What a weekend we have had! Not only was I blessed through our special Communion Service, the music and food of Strawberry Vespers, and the Evening with Manny Taiblum, but I came away on cloud nine just witnessing our family pulling together to provide these special events for our community. So many people gave of their time and talents, turning up, setting up, cleaning up, practicing, planning, giving, cooking, serving, working together as the Body of Christ and it was such a blessing to behold. I praise God for such an incredibly loving and committed Family of God – you truly are special!

The beautiful thing about the Family of God is that with all our differences, there is a place for all. More than that, we need each other. It can be tempting to try to work and live in isolation – even in our areas of ministry. However, God calls us to be family, to work interconnectedly, for each person to take their part, and for all of us to have equal concern for each other (1 Cor 12:13, 14, 21, 25). Thank you for living this out atSunnyside!

Perhaps you are new to the family, and are still finding your place – don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff or elders for ways of getting involved. There is a place for you here.

As always, I am looking forward to worshipping with you all tomorrow.

In Him,

Pastor Kara Dale

Vacation Bible School: This afternoon immediately following our second worship service, a meal will be provided for all Vacation Bible School volunteers. We’ll gather together for a brief training, and then spread out through the neighborhood distributing flyers to our friends about our upcoming VBS.

Vacation Bible School is July 11-15, 6:30 pm. This year’s theme is Cave Quest – Following Jesus, the Light of the World. As always, we are soliciting volunteers. We need volunteers in every area. If you have helped in years past, or would like to start this year, we have a place for you. Please sign up online at www.SunnysideAdventist.org, if you are available to help, or if you would like to attend register for our VBS on the same site.

Encounters With God this afternoon at 5:00, features Pastor Kara Dale.

Our monthly fellowship potluck will be next week. Plan to attend and bring enough food for your family as well as extra to serve our guests. We will be specializing in cold picnic foods since this is the hot time of year! This is a great time to visit with friends and make new acquaintances.

Handbells – if you have enjoyed hearing the handbells for worship services, perhaps you would enjoy even more ringing with the team. We will have several open positions for the coming season which begins in September and would like to learn of your interest now. Competing schedules have taken it’s toll on our ringers! Please call Rosemayne at 503-730-5317; or email rosemaynet@frontier.com.

Family Resource Network – We have another specific need! Two families have arrived from the Congo, and need everything to set up their home. If you can donate anything, please contact Marie at 503-998-3754. Thank you for your continued support of the Family Resource Network. Many families have received the urgent help they needed because of your generosity. Mark your envelope “Family Resource Network” or
act. #488.

First Friday will be held July 1, 7:15-8:30 pm, in the lower level amphitheater of Adventist Medical Center. This is a time of music and spiritual fellowship. This month Ohana praise and worship band will present the music; an inspirational thought will be from Alex and Liesl Geschke who have a miraculous story to share. Flyers are available on the Narthex table.

Wanted: CD of the SDA Bible Commentary / 7 volumes: If you have this CD or know of someone that does, we have a request for someone to borrow it. Please call the church office if you have one to loan: 503-252-8080.

Children’s Ministries family picnic, Sabbath afternoon, July 30. Watch for more information to come!

Become a Hospice Volunteer!
Did you know that the word “companion” is not only a noun, but also a verb? “Companion” means “to accompany.” To be a companion volunteer is not only to be a friend and companion, but it also means to accompany someone on a journey. In the case of being a hospice companion volunteer, you are one who accompanies another on their journey at the end of life. This is not only a ministry to the dying, but also one of the most sacred journeys that you will ever take with another person. Many of us are called to such a ministry. When asked why we do this, we are often unsure of what the answer is other than that it is something that we must do. If this sounds like you, then perhaps you would like to learn more about becoming a hospice volunteer. Adventist Health Hospice is currently looking for people who feel called to serve in this capacity. There are many opportunities available. Give us a call today at 503-251-6192 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator if this feels like an opportunity you would like to explore.

Great News about Big Lake!!
We have been given permission by the Forest Service to rebuild cabins in the Girl’s Village! They have lifted the moratorium on new building (after many decades of master plan negotiations). To fundraise for the new cabins we are working to find counselors that lived in cabins, 20, 21, 25, 27, 30, or GV directors. We are hoping that they might be willing to share a positive, life-changing experience that they had while they were counseling in that particular cabin. If you fit this category or know of someone who does, please contact Les Zollbrecht, Director Big Lake Youth Camp 503-850-3578.

Come be a part of the team – Camp Meeting Team!
Do you want to have a great time helping others and being part of a team that feels like family? If so, please consider volunteering during camp meeting this year. We’re looking for hard-working individuals who want to be involved serving God through service to others… and who want to have fun doing it.  We need volunteers for Hispanic Camp Meeting (July 14 – 16) and Gladstone Camp Meeting (July 19 – 23) in a variety of areas including hospitality, shuttle service, safety and security. We will also need licensed RNS & EMTs. Whether you can work one day or all week we’d love to have you on our team! To volunteer go to http://volunteer.oregonconference.org or contact Lisa Rodriguez via email at lisa.rodriguez@oc.npuc.org or by phone at 503- 850-3575.
