On Wednesday night, the spiritual leaders of Sunnyside met together at our monthly board meeting. Among the agenda items, the board endorsed a proposal regarding our renovation project that is both challenging and exciting.
The proposal sets forth the timeline for completing the renovation of our four main restrooms. Demolition will begin near the end of September with the project complete by Thanksgiving. It appears that material, supplies, and contractors are aligned to make the plan a reality. That’s the exciting part. The challenging part is that our business meeting has previously decided that we would pursue this project on a cash basis, as funding allows. This aggressive timeline makes that goal challenging. If you’ve been paying attention to our ReNew Sunnyside (renovation campaign) fundraising progress, you’ll notice that we are about $100,000 short of our Phase 2 fundraising goal. Recently, we received an estate gift, of which $50,000 will be allocated to the ReNew project. This means that to keep our pledge to do this project as cash comes in, our goal is to raise $50,000 in ReNew Sunnyside funding before Thanksgiving. That gives us about 12 weeks to reach our goal. We’re talking about a lot of money. In a short amount of time. Yet as we pull together to contribute as we are able, the Lord can use this faith community to do something amazing.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to welcome our guests in the Christmas season with repaired and refreshed restrooms that are more fully handicap-accessible? Absolutely. And with the participation of every member, the plan can become a reality.
You can participate by marking your gift ReNew Sunnyside.

Sunnyside has adopted a second family to move from a homeless shelter to their own apartment. Our team will help the family for six months to settle into their new environment and direct them to resources to help themselves. It’s a big step. Our adopted family is a single mom and two teenage children. They need everything it takes to set up a “home.” We are working with the Family Resource Network to support this family, and to show what love looks like. Their specific requests are: basic items for kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, to a small chest freezer. All donations are welcome. If you can help, please call Kathy Pruitt 360-241-1345.Romans 12:10-12: “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above ourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual favor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Family Resource Network – Thank you for your continued support of the Family Resource Network. Many families have received the urgent help they needed because of your generosity. Mark your envelope “Family Resource Network”/act. #488.
