Dear Church Family,

There are people who will briefly pick up chapters of the Old Testament prophets, and pronounce judgment against what appears to them, to be a God of wanton wrath. However, a closer reading of the text portrays a very different picture. Revealed in the poetry and prose is a God who sees the unseen and aches for them; who witnesses the oppressed, and the abandoned, and advocates for them; who longs to shelter the vulnerable. As He witnesses His chosen nation neglecting the least of these, even participating in their exploitation, He calls for justice. He pleads with this rescued nation, who themselves had once been exploited, to open their hearts to His loving character.

Isaiah 1:17: “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”

The case of the vulnerable, the oppressed, the least of these, is close to the heart of the Father. And so I am so excited to see our church family pressing in further and further to join Him in this cause. During this last week I joined a group of selfless men and women, planning a well-organized strategy to help newly arrived refugees adapt to their new home here in Portland. Not only by helping out with physical needs, but more importantly, committing to build relationships with them, helping them adapt to the new language and culture. Dr. Gingrich and Marie Pierre are leading this Cultural Navigation Ministry and are welcoming further team members. If this is something that you feel the Lord leading you to, then give them a call.

In Him,

Pastor Kara Dale
