April 29 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here)

Greetings Sunnyside Family,

A faith community is a place where we can experience the life-changing grace of God.  So argues Larry Crabb in his book titled Connecting. As a career psychologist, Dr. Crabb teaches that many things we go to counselors or pastors for could be cared for just as (or more) effectively through meaningful spiritual community with other believers. A healing, helpful community is one in which people experience a taste of Christ’s delight in humanity. “The absolute center of what God does to help us change is to reveal Himself to us. God loves to delight in people.”

So many times in our faith tradition, we’ve focused on what we should do, how we should change, or which rules must be followed. While it’s valuable to be conscientious of what God desires for us, sometimes the focus is all wrong. Throughout the New Testament, we see Bible authors that remind us that change happens, habits are overcome, character grows through the power of the Holy Spirit.  When we take time individually and in community to go deeper in relationship with God, to learn more of His character, to notice what He is doing around us, then God uses that journey to change us into His image.

That’s why I hope you’ll engage with us for the teaching journey called, “Indescribable.” In our worship services, we’ll be focusing on who God is. And I hope you’ll engage in community through small group options and service opportunities.

By God’s grace, we will grow closer together and closer to God as a faith community that brings spiritual healing and vitality.

May God bless each of us as we experience His Sabbath together.

See you tomorrow,

Pastor Jonathan Russell
