May 27 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here)

Greetings Church Family,

Last week, we had a church board meeting in which we had lots to talk about. I’m thankful for our board members who are mission-driven and Spirit-filled as they process decisions that are important to our future. Among the decisions were two recommendations from our Communications team. The first will align our visual identity (logo & print materials) with new General Conference guidelines released last month. I think most will enjoy the look that focuses on Sunnyside as a community of people.

In addition, the board approved some work on a new website. In this decade, a website is akin to the front door of a building and I’m excited that we have some top-notch people working to make our digital front door functional and beautiful.

Finally, the board took a first peek at the proposed budget for the next budget cycle. If you’ve been following our financial progress as a community, you know that the past year has been challenging for us.  The budget acknowledges that and proposes a way forward for the next year.  Yet the challenges are significant enough that we believe it is important to talk together in a bit more depth about the budget priorities for the next year.  That’s why I want to personally invite you to Sunnyside’s town hall meeting at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 1.  At the town hall, we will receive feedback from all members about our ministry priorities and our proposed budget levels.  I hope that many of you will join in the conversation as we work together to plot the path forward.  At that meeting, you’ll even get the first look at the new logo design that our communication has put together. Food will open at 5:30, with proceeds from the sale of the meal supporting Sunnyside ministry.

I hope we will have a full house as we talk together about our “M&M” priorities.

As a church family, we make difficult decisions together and we serve our community together.  That’s why I hope you’ll plan to join in with SunnyCity and our Lawn Concert on July 2.  We need dozens of volunteers to set up tents, to clean up the venue, to interact with kids and families throughout the day. We need others who will volunteer time and energy in preparing materials in the weeks preceding.  It takes a team effort to connect with our community.  I’m thankful for the partnership of Adventist Medical Center, Portland Adventist Academy and Sunnyside Symphony Orchestra in pulling this event together.  Yet we can’t do it without the volunteer energy of Sunnyside members.

Thanks to each of you for your part in being a great family in which we worship, work, and serve together for God’s glory.

Hoping to see many of you out and about for these great events as God leads us forward.

Blessings,

Pastor Jonathan Russell

Shout out to Debbie Stanton and her team in putting together such a great children’s church. We had nearly 100 children in attendance. Thank you, Debbie.

To Arnold Petersen, Jim Newell, Carmen Cafferky, Dianne Glovatsky, Gingrich’s and Round Table Sabbath School classes for providing such good food for the WWVA Praise Ringers.
