June 3 Communiqué

Don’t miss other Announcements  &  Week At a Glance in the Church Bulletin (Click here)

Greetings Family,

There are moments in life when you catch a glimpse of God, sometimes its almost expected, like hiking Mt Hood on a sunny afternoon, at other times, He catches you unexpectedly.

Wednesday night as I was tending my community garden, I met a women whose appearance marked her as someone on the fringe of society, one who was used to rejection, perhaps often placed in a category of fear/suspicion.

After saying “Hi” as I walked past, I didn’t push for more conversation; in many ways I was in my own thoughts that evening anyway. As I picked my harvest of three (!!!) slightly slug eaten strawberries, she came over and commented on them, asking me if they were the first I had picked. As I joked that the slugs were having more success in harvesting than myself, she hesitated, looking down at her bag of 15 or so freshly picked berries, and then slowly pulled out a handful, extending it to me. It’s hard to describe the moment, other than to say that it was more than strawberries that she was giving me. I sensed God touching humanity as she extended her hand, it felt holy. I carefully carried the strawberries home, and with me, a reminder that His grace is everywhere.

Pastor Kara Johnsson

Send your “shout-outs” to info@SunnysideAdventist.org so we can include them in next week’s Communiqué. This is a place you can recognize someone for doing good, or going beyond expectations.

To our church family who quickly responded to a medical emergency last Sabbath. Thank you!
