The FaithLift Bible Study (which is an open study for any ladies who are interested) has been working their way through the book of Isaiah and it has been quite an incredible journey. This morning we were looking at the prophecies that point to Jerusalem being restored and discussing how for many in Jesus’ day this hope was strong in a very literal sense. A liberation from Rome, a physical restoration of the kingdom, perhaps as they had experienced in the past under King Solomon – so much so that they were going to anoint Jesus king by force!
It is so easy for us to expect God to act in certain ways, especially when it comes to anything to do with earthly kingdoms! We can hold so tightly to how He worked in our past that we miss what He may be doing right now, or in our future. The wonder and comfort, is that God holds us, and works, even as we may struggle to see and understand – He is that gracious!
This past week has been one filled with many concerning issues in our world. It makes us long for Jesus’ Second Coming, and it’s tempting to predict its imminent nearness. But we truly do not know when our God will return. In His counsel to the disciples in Matthew 24, He spoke of the importance of not getting alarmed at these things. Instead, we can be a people of hope and peace, a place where God’s light shines even as the darkness gathers (Isaiah 60:1-2). As we walk in the certainty that “greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4), we can push back against the temptation of fear and self-preservation. Our God is with us always, even to the end of the age.

On Wednesday night, our business meeting approved the church budget for next year that would require $570,000, in donations over the next 12 months. As a faith community, we believe that this money is what is necessary for the ministry to which God calls us this year. Yet the decision was difficult because we haven’t met our giving goals for our current budget. If we are to meet the needs of the Sunnyside ministry, it will be because every member participates as a financial partner. By faith, we’ve embraced the ministry challenge before us. By faith, let’s partner financially to sustain and grow ministry through Church Budget.
