Greetings church family,
The signs and commercials for the “Back to School” sales have already begun to pop up and the calendar has rolled over to August. These are surely signs that summer is getting close to its end and a new school year is getting close to beginning. There is roughly about one month before the school bells will be ringing and homework will be due once again. The last week has seen our family going around finalizing the education plans for our children. There was a sense of urgency for our family because last year’s classmates for our kids are getting ready to head back to school next week. Here we have about a month left before the kids head back to school. So what have you done with your summer?
It is possible that you have been busy working. Maybe you have been working at getting a new job. It’s possible that you have simply been using this time to relax as much as possible and try and stay cool. My question to you is what have you done with this summer? What have you done with the opportunities that God has given you to witness for Him, to invite others to get to know Him? Have you ever thought that maybe God allowed you to work where you are so that you can minister to the people there? Maybe you needed to be there so that you could meet a new friend who needs Christ in their life. Now before you scoff at the notion think about the experience of Queen Esther and the words of advice she was given. “And who knows but that you have come to this position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14) Sometimes God works that way and He might be trying to use you. How we respond to that call from God to be used for His glory shows whether we should be called just a believer of Christ or a disciple of Christ?
Now I am not writing this to try and make you feel bad for any opportunities that you might have missed out on. I am writing this to offer you some good news. The good news is that the summer is not quite over and you can still make a positive difference in someone’s life. So think about the opportunities that God has given you this summer and how you can use them for his honor and glory. Be a disciple not just a believer!
