Greetings Church Family,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and plenty of gratitude. I’m always amazed around this time at the ability of the popular mood of Americans to change so quickly. Yesterday afternoon, the focus was on gratitude, family connection, and the warm emotions of togetherness. Once the clock struck 5:00, the mood almost instantly shifted as shoppers began gearing up for the Black Friday rush. The shift makes one’s head spin. From gratitude to consumer “lust” in a few seconds.
Even as you read this, there are people around town frantically seeking the best deals on last year’s stuff. Our attention has shifted. And not for the better.
I hope for a day when God’s people would keep the gratitude rolling past Black Friday and throughout the holiday season. I long for a community of faithful believers that allow their sense of gratitude to move from the provision of the harvest and family relationship to the Provisioner, the One who gave the ultimate gift in the presence of Emmanuel. May we be people that cut across the grain of culture and demonstrate a lifestyle of humble gratitude to the Redeemer throughout the Christmas season.
But before we get too far into Christmas, we have one more week of Thanksgiving at Sunnyside. Tomorrow we give thanks because we will celebrate baptism with four people who have chosen to make Sunnyside their spiritual home. Music will feature the talented Tsikirai family of young musicians. And I will be preaching a message of gratitude based on Ephesians 2.
Hope to see you there!
Pastor Jonathan Russell

Investment Labels! Remember when you collected and turned in labels from Worthington and Loma Linda cans for missions? The label collecting idea is not just a thing of the past. It is still alive and well and has increased in rewards for missions. Labels (including UPC code) from Worthington, Loma Linda, and Caroline’s will pay $.25 each. Cedar Lake, Heritage, Worthington frozen, Kim’s Simple Meals, are .05 each and Norpac Foods, Flav-R-Pac, Santiam, and Westpac are .05 each. Take the time now to save these labels and help build funds for missions. Bring them in, turn them in at children’s Sabbath School, or directly to the Sabbath School secretaries. Every nickel counts!

Volunteer Positions Available:
Looking for a way to engage your heart, mind, and spirit? If so, please consider volunteering with Adventist Health Hospice. Adventist Health Hospice is looking for individuals who are willing to share just a little of their time visiting patients who are facing a life-limiting illness. No experience required – just a compassionate heart for people and the desire to make a patient’s remaining days as fulfilling as possible. It is about the gift of one’s presence and spending just a little of one’s time to sit with those who are facing the end of their lives. Sometimes, it’s just to talk or read or share stories and laughter…at other times…you could help record a life history, play music and sing, or play cards and board games. It’s as individual as you are. A volunteer’s presence helps to lessen a patient’s loneliness by providing them with companionship. Our volunteers work in the field – in patient’s homes, adult family homes, or nursing homes, wherever a patient might call home. Volunteers determine when and how much time they can provide – some a few hours a week, others just a few hours a month. For more information, please contact Debby Murphy, Volunteer Coordinator by phone at 503-251-6192, ext. 56420 or 503-730-8378 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
