Just wanted to say thank you again for coming together for such a great start to the new year this past Sabbath. It is such a privilege and joy to be a part of our Sunnyside Family and to share worship together. I love that we are diverse; so many different backgrounds, so many different outlooks. It makes me think of the disciples; a more diverse group would have been hard to find! In fact, as I reflect on their different characters, occupations, political outlooks, and status, my hunch is that if given the choice, they would not have naturally chosen to hang out! There were times when they even had sharp disagreements. But they found their unity in their relationship with Jesus. That is church – real church. And I am thankful for the maturity and love that I see at work in our family at Sunnyside.
Looking forward to seeing you this Sabbath as we continue our series “Heroes of Faith.”

PAA’s Lunch Revolution Needs You
Last Sabbath, Portland Adventist Academy’s Stephanie Torgerson (or “Chef Stef” as she’s known) did a short presentation about the school’s lunch revolution. “Healthy eating is part of our heritage as Adventists,” says Torgerson. “With urban farms cropping up all over our city, and vegan and vegetarian lifestyles trending, why shouldn’t we be leaders in this movement?” It is for this reason, PAA’s cafeteria provides students with non-processed lunches, with plenty of vegan choices, a bountiful colorful salad bar, and the invitation to return for vegetables and fruit as often as one wishes.
And there’s more! PAA students can now harvest organic produce at school. New garden beds, brimming with vegetables in the fall and spring, give students the satisfaction of knowing they helped grow some of the food they get to eat at lunch.
Chef Stef is leading the way and there are many more goals to accomplish. If you are an avid gardener, a carpenter, or someone who simply loves food and cooking healthy meals, you could be a part of making a difference for current and future students. We would love to hear from you! Contact Chef Stef directly at 703.338.5747 or email@example.com.
