This morning the world woke up in relief to the news that the Thai soccer team and their assistant coach had been successfully rescued from the flooded caves. I, along with many others in the world it would seem, have been following their progress. It was a horrifying scenario. Yet there was also beauty. In the midst of the horror we saw the world come together in a mission for good. Countries that may often struggle to find things to agree on, were united in their determination to help these children.
Russia promised them tickets to the Soccer World Cup if they were out in time. USA, Canada, Australia and many others sent in experts to help. Navy SEALS risked, and sadly gave, their lives to do what it took. Local business owners in Thailand shut down diving businesses in order to provide full support to the mission.
In a world that often feels cold, that can seem chaotic and dangerous, the heartbeat of God was revealed, reminding me that He is closer than we think and at work in ways and people that sometimes surprise us.
In the words of John, “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)
Looking forward to worshipping with you in a few short days,
