A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
Yesterday I visited a beautiful woman whose presence has been a blessing in my life, and who is not far from resting in Jesus. As I held her hand and sat in her presence one last time, I was reminded again of the wonder and privilege that we have in relationships. We often think of “the body of Christ” in a functional way; everyone has their giftedness and special role in the church. This is true – we do, and I am so thankful that the responsibilities are shared! However, God’s vision for His children is far deeper than functionality. It is joy. Sheer joy of connecting, witnessing, sharing, laughing, crying, living life with one another. And so in this whirlwind that often is life, I encourage you to pause in the coming week and make time to connect with someone who perhaps, you have not had the joy of connecting with in a little while. Prioritize it.
This morning I leave for Canon beach, where I will enter my third Doctorate Intensive. I will be away one week, returning next Wednesday evening. It marks a half way point in my studies and I wanted to thank you for the prayers and encouragement that you have given me in this endeavor. You are a blessing to call family.
